To say that we must, as a nation, look forward and forgo prosecution of the international and domestic crimes committed by George W. Bush and his administration while using and abusing the resources of our nation is irresponsible and unconscionable. And just plain unacceptable.
We have a responsibility to the world for both our business behaviors and military actions. If this nation is to regain some measure of respect from the rest of the world as anything but a nation of self-indulgent spoiled brats who think no farther than the reaches of our own pleasures and desires, we had best step up to the line and make the word "law" mean something. And that means doing something about George W. Bush and the miscreants that he empowered.
We know at least the big picture of his disdainful actions. And I won't take the time to recount the many things he has done to make a mockery of "The American Way". Nor will I recount the damages done to international relationships cultured before he made himself (vis-a-vis the Supreme Court) Supreme Leader. He and those of his administration have fouled our international relationships to the stretching point of tolerance. The rants of citizens and foreign watchers concerning his crimes ring from the lowest swamp land of Louisiana to the melting polar caps both North and South, in chat rooms, blogs, editorials and meeting places of all kinds.
No, I will instead say- forget the rhetoric. Look away from the hype and hooey. Ask yourself- would you let your child behave that way and offer no compensation nor sense of justice to those he had harmed/wronged? I don't think you have to have a child to agree that the parent of a child has the responsibility to assure that child does not wreak havoc on the rest of the world! Are we not the parents of our own nation or shall we forever be like children, absolved of responsibility for the actions of those we empower?
Is it not our responsibility to oversee the actions of those we arm, finance and entrust with the heady responsibility of carrying our reputation and actions to our neighbors? George W. Bush must be held accountable for his actions. No one should be allowed to do so much harm in our names and not have to answer for those actions. Have we no shame?
From the moment of his unConstitutional self-appointment (vis-a-vis a corrupted Supreme Court) he has violated the will of this nation, it's letter of law (the Constitution he is pledged to uphold), the good-will of our allies, the international rights of those he deems enemies, and the rights afforded U.S. citizens by the Constitution with which we govern ourselves. Have we no officers of that Constitution willing to uphold the laws which comprise the document itself?
Barak Obama did not make George W. Bush, nor did he condone the actions of Bush. But he has chosen to seek the office responsible for what comes next. And though the Republicans have learned to make their bullying ways rule the day, we must have it in our national mindset to resist such tactics. Mr. Obama stood up to them easily enough to get elected. Why cater to their demands now?
Are we to forget so easily? If so, it won't be long before another George Bush seeks to thwart the will and intent of the office of President of this nation. And next time, there may be no doubt left of what a dictator can do with the resources this nation possesses.
Shouldn't we attend to the old business before we start anew? Let us say it proud and say it loud, to quote James Brown. Let us demand an accounting for these wrongs put upon our national reputation, the world economy, and our civil rights. Let us tell each other until the noise of it sweeps all other actions away.
Investigate and prosecute George W. Bush and Co. It's the right thing to do. Say it, say it, say it. Say it until it is done. And let none forget how easily this nation was diverted for the desires of just one cabal...
